Recall notice highlighted in red

Earlier this week, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a recall of more than 3800 Mercedes EQ sedans due to a battery issue. Read our article to learn more about the Mercedes recall and what you can do if you own an affected vehicle.

Which EQ Vehicles Have Been Recalled?

The current Mercedes recall includes 2022 and 2023 EQ sedans. The specific models that have been recalled are:

  • 2022 EQS 450 and 450+
  • 2022 AMG EQS 53
  • 2022 EQS 580
  • 2023 EQS 450
  • 2023 S 580e
  • 2023 EQE 350

These are the only Mercedes vehicles that have been recalled so far. You can check for any new Mercedes recalls by visiting the Mercedes Benz website and entering your VIN. You can also visit the NHTSA website search by date range to determine if your vehicle is on the recall list.

Owners of affected vehicles receive a mailed notification of the recall from Mercedes by the end of June 2023.

Why is Mercedes Recalling These Vehicles?

The Mercedes recall is occurring due to an issue with the above vehicle’s battery. Apparently, the current battery management system may not alert drivers if there is a mechanical failure of the battery. This could increase the chances of an accident or fire. In other vehicles, drivers receive a warning if the battery isn’t operating correctly. This allows them the opportunity to pull over and seek roadside assistance before any damage can occur.

So far, there have been no reported injuries or crashes directly related to the Mercedes recall. However, it is in the best interest of owners of the recalled vehicles to contact the dealer where they originally purchased their vehicle as soon as possible. It is merely a software issue that dealerships will update free of charge for their customers.
