AMG C 43 sedan in midnight black

Mercedes Benz announced pricing and packaging details for the all new AMG C 43 sedan, which began arriving at US dealerships earlier this month. The vehicle features several new design enhancements, many derived from the brand’s Formula 1 race cars. Let’s take a closer look at the most important changes for the 2023 Mercedes Benz AMG C 43.

Electric Turbocharging in the AMG C 43

One of the most unique features of the AMG C 43 is the addition of an electric exhaust gas turbocharger. Electric turbocharging mimics the efficiency of a twin charging system (supercharger and turbocharger), but the unit takes up significantly less space. Electric turbochargers also have the added benefit of being able to be switched off when not in use, saving gas and reducing emissions overall.

When it comes to sheer drivability, electric turbocharging makes for some of the smoothest handling around. Since they are not always active, electric turbochargers do not reduce engine power. The vehicle is thus able to maintain a constant level of torque (362 lb-ft in the AMG C 43), no matter what the engine’s rpm is.

But all that torque doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice the engine sounds of your race car. The beauty of the AMG C 43 is that you get to choose: a quiet ride, or major engine rev sounds. You can select a driving mode that dampens engine sounds, or one that enhances it. Drivers looking for a true race track experience can even amplify the engine revving with the AMG Real Performance Sound option.

Boosted HP, Torque, and Cooling Innovation

The 2023 AMG C 43 achieves an incredible 402 hp. This can be boosted up to 415 hp in certain conditions, thanks to the second generation belt driven starter generator. A new cooling system allows the cylinder head and crankcase to be cooled to different temperatures, further increasing efficiency.

The newest C 43 sedan also comes equipped with Mercedes patented AMG SPEEDSHIFT, which utilizes a wet startup multi clutch in place of the traditional torque converter. In addition being lighter and more responsive, the multi clutch also offers drivers the ability to select from multiple modes in order to shorten shift times and enact multigear downshifts.
