Last year, Mercedes Benz debuted its all-electric EQ line with the EQS 450+, a sleek sedan powered by the brand’s trademark Permanently Synchronous Motor (PSM). This Fall, they will be releasing their first all-electric compact SUV: the EQB. The roomy 7-seater will be styled much like its gasoline-fueled GLB cousin, but with a completely electric motor. Let’s take a more in-depth look at the features of 2023 EQB

2023 Mercedes EQB Models

The EQB will be offered in two models: the 300 and the more powerful 350. At 225 hp and 288 lb-ft of torque, the average driver will likely find the 300 plenty powerful enough. If you’re looking for a little more muscle, the 350 ramps up the horsepower to 288 and the torque to 324 lb-ft.

In both cases, the electric EQB exceeds the performance of the GLB, whose 250 4MATIC gas engine maxes out at 221 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The result is an incredibly smooth, settled ride and maximum control.

Mercedes EQB Trim Options

The 2023 EQB will be available in two trim options: Exclusive and Pinnacle. The Exclusive trim includes the Mercedes Keyless-Go package, an extension of the Keyless Start feature. Drivers can stop and start the engine and lock and unlock the vehicle using sensors on the door handle. The key just needs to be in range of the vehicle’s sensors. The Exclusive trim also includes inductive wireless charging and an enhanced stereo system.

The Pinnacle trim includes all the features of the Exclusive, plus a 360 degree camera, panoramic sunroof, and Mercedes state-of-the-art Burmester sound system.

EQB Battery Range and Charging

The EQB gets an impressive 243 miles on one full charge. The vehicle utilizes a 70.5 kWh battery, which can be charged using an at-home wall charger or at over 60,000 semi-public charging stations across the nation.

The semi-public charging stations are a faster option since they use direct current (DC). A 110 kWh DC station will charge your car to 80 percent in about thirty minutes. Your home unit will do the job overnight (7.5 hours) but, since it uses alternating current, it won’t cause your utilities bill to skyrocket.

EQB Luxury and Tech Specs

The 2023 EQB comes outfitted with all the tech and comfort you’ve come to expect in a Mercedes. Both models come standard with a fully digital cockpit equipped with the MBUX artificial intelligence assistant, intuitive touch controls, bluetooth pairing, multiple usb ports, and ambient lighting in 64 colors. The available Technology Package propels the car even further into the future, with an option for an exclusive backlit dashboard and enhanced navigation and safety features.

The cabin of the EQB is exceptionally comfortable, with heated and ventilated memory front seats and plenty of leg and shoulder room. When not in use, the back row can be folded down to provide additional cargo space. Dual zone climate control filters keep the air clean and fresh while driving.

Is the 2023 EQB Worth It?

With a starting price of $52,400, the Mercedes Benz EQB is comparable in price to other luxury electric compact SUVs. But the Mercedes knocks it out of the park when it comes to added technology and sheer drivability. The responsiveness and maneuverability are unparalleled, and much of the tech that comes standard in the base models of the EQB will cost you extra in other luxury brands.  (A fully digital cockpit will cost you about $8000 in an Audi Q4 50 e tron, for example.)

And, while you might not want to take a Tesla Y off-roading, the Mercedes EQB seamlessly tackles rougher terrain with a unique, four-wheel independent suspensions system and the 4MATIC all-wheel drive option.
