Which is better? GLC or X3

Mercedes Benz and BMW maintain a friendly rivalry when it comes to vehicles, and their latest compact SUVs are no exception. The 2022 Mercedes GLC and BMW X3 are both sleek, sophisticated, and roomy SUVs with the latest in comfort and technology. Both are comparable in engine specs, dimensions, and price point. So how do you choose between the two? Is there anything that sets one apart from the other? As it turns out, there are a few key differences between the GLC and the BMW X3 that can make all the difference.

GLC vs BMW X3: Engine Specifications

As we mentioned, the engine specs for the X3 and the GLC are very similar. For direct comparison, let’s take a look at the base models for each brand: the GLC 300 vs the X3 sDrive 30i:

X3 sDrive 30i2.0L in-line 4 turbo 248258 lb-ft8 speed automatic256 sec

As you can see, both vehicles make use of a 2.0L in-line 4 turbo engine. The X3 edges out the GLC slightly in acceleration, but the Mercedes GLC 300 engine puts out more horsepower and torque. Its transmission also includes 9 speeds versus the X3’s 8 speeds.

These numbers might seem trifling, but when comparing the GLC to the X3, it is the details that matter. More torque, especially, is a top consideration for buyers looking for increased handling and comfort while driving.

GLC AMG 63 vs BMW X3 M

Both Mercedes and BMW have three subclasses within their compact SUV classes. At the higher end of the X3 line, BMW offers the X3 M. Described as a “high performance sports activity vehicle,” the X3 M utilizes a 6-cylinder engine that puts out 473 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque. This high end version of the BMW X3 class comes with a steeper price tag, with a base price of about $69,000.

Mercedes’ creme-de-la-creme for its compact SUV class is the GLC AMG 63 S 4Matic+, which will make its stateside debut this Fall. Equipped with a handcrafted, V8 biturbo engine, the GLC AMG 63 puts out a whopping 503 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. All this handling

X3 sDrive 30i185.5×74.4×66 in41.140.3/36.4 in28.7-62.7

The GLC and X3 are comparable in exterior and interior dimensions. The X3 sDrive 30i offers slightly more head room, while the GLC has a touch more leg room.

The real difference between the GLC and the X3 models is the styling. Overall, the X3 sDrive 30i looks like what it is: a high-end SUV. A long nose, narrow grill, and angular sculpting give it a sleek-yet muscular appearance.

On the other hand, Mercedes-Benz appears to have circumvented the “traditional” SUV look. By reducing the overhang and adding sleek lower bodywork and chrome accents, the vehicle looks unexpectedly zippy for an SUV. You also have the option of upgrading to an AMG trim, which will only enhance this sporty car’s effortless appeal.
