hand writing the words "tax write off"

As a business owner, maximizing tax deductions is a key strategy for reducing your taxable income and increasing your bottom line. One of the valuable tax-saving opportunities available to businesses is the Section 179 deduction. This allows you to subtract the cost of machinery and other qualifying items, including vehicles! Vehicles must meet certain requirements in order to qualify for Section 179, however. Let’s take a look at the section 179 deduction vehicle list for 2023.

Mercedes EV special offers

Understanding Section 179

First, let’s quickly review what this deduction covers in general. Section 179 of the IRS tax code allows businesses to deduct the full purchase price of qualifying equipment or property purchased or financed during the tax year. This deduction was designed to encourage small and medium-sized businesses to invest in their growth by providing an incentive for buying necessary assets.

In addition to certain vehicles, the following are eligible for a deduction under Section 179:

  • Machinery and equipment needed for the business
  • Software (not custom)
  • Livestock
  • Furniture

Section 179 does not generally cover real estate or intangible assets, like copyrights and licensing.

Qualifying Section 179 Vehicles

To qualify for the section 179 deduction, a vehicle must meet certain criteria set forth by the IRS:

  • Eligible vehicles can be a passenger car, crossover SUVs, heavy SUVs, trucks, and vans
  • The vehicle must be put to use for business within the first year of purchase
  • The vehicle can be purchased new or used
  • The vehicle must be used at least 50 percent of the time for business purposes*

*Keep in mind that, in order to claim the full deduction for your vehicle, it must be used 100 percent of the time for business. Otherwise, you will be eligible for only a partial deduction.

Section 179 Vehicle Categories

The IRS recognizes three categories of qualifying vehicles: Light, Heavy, and Other:

  • Light Vehicle Section 179 Requirements
  • Must have a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of less than 6000 pounds. This includes most crossover SUVs and passenger vehicles.

For 2023, the maximum amount you can deduct for a light business vehicle is $12,200 in the first year the vehicle is used.

Model examples: Mercedes Benz EQB-Class, EQS-Class

Heavy Vehicle Section 179 Requirement
Heavy vehicles must be between 6,000 and 14,000 pounds. This would include most full-sized SUVs, cargo and passenger vans, and pickup trucks.

“Heavy” vehicles can deduct a maximum of $28,900 for 2023.

Model examples: Mercedes Benz Sprinter vans; EQS SUV

Other Section 179 Vehicles

  • These are vehicles with a GVWR of more than 14,000 pounds or a vehicle that has been customized/modified for business use. Specific parameters include:
  • Delivery vans that have an interior cargo area of at least six feet and that is not easily accessible by passengers.
  • Shuttle vehicles that have more than nine passengers behind the driver
  • Vehicles with a fully enclosed driver compartment and no seating behind the driver

This category would also include vehicles such as ambulances, hearses, and work trucks.

Generally, you can find your vehicle’s GVWR on the manufacturer’s label on the inside of the car door.

Is There a Limit to the Number of Vehicles You Can Deduct?

You can deduct as many vehicles as you want, up to a maximum of $1,080,000. In the case of a heavy vehicle, this means you could deduct up to 37 vehicles, provided each meets the other necessary criteria.

How to Claim the Deduction

To take advantage of the Section 179 deduction for qualifying vehicles, you’ll need to obtain Form 4562 and select the 179 deduction (Section 1). You will then list the properties (vehicles) for which you intend to apply the deduction. Make sure you maintain careful records of mileage, receipts, and other evidence of the vehicle’s stated business purpose.

Write Off a Mercedes Benz Sprinter for Your Business

They are highly customizable, extremely comfortable to drive, and utilize a diesel engine that outlasts its gas competitors by decades. 2024 GLC 300 4MATIC in blue with mountain backdrop

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC Coupe is set to hit US dealerships in late autumn/early winter. It features a host of tech, luxury, and style upgrades to the already wildly popular model. The model will be available in standard and Pinnacle trim options, along with a variety of packages designed to accommodate the most frequently grouped optional features.

New Features of the 2024 GLC 300 4MATIC Coupe by Mercedes

The goal of the new GLC 300 4MATIC is to unite the practicality of an SUV with the drivability of a coupe. Lower in height but with the zippy performance of an off-road vehicle, the model superbly navigates virtually any terrain. The brand has revamped several styling and tech details without compromising performance or comfort:

New Styling on the Exterior

The sporty design of the GLC 300 has been augmented with carved edges and deliberate shaping to highlight the wheel arches and overall proportions of the vehicle. Once optional, the Mercedes-Benz star pattern is now standard on all GLC 300 radiator grille covers.

More Cargo Space

The new GLC 300 4MATIC has more storage space than its predecessor: a full 1.6 cubic feet  more with the second row in place (19.2 cu ft total), and a massive increase of 3.1 cubic feet with the seats folded down (52.6 cu ft total).

Bigger Screens and Updated Systems

The interior of the 2024 GLC 4MATIC is equipped with the latest in Mercedes Benz technology, including a larger center infotainment display (11.9” up from 10.25”) and the newest navigation and MBUX systems.

2024 GLC 300 Interior Highlights

Both the driver and passenger seats in the new GLC 300 4MATIC will be heated. Panoramic sunroof is now standard and 2.4 inches longer than in the previous models. Inductive wireless charging is now available as well for added driver and passenger convenience.

Advanced Mild Hybrid Technology

The 2024 GLC 300 4MATIC comes equipped with a 48 volt battery and integrated start generator to recoup energy during braking and other tasks, increasing fuel efficiency and boosting the hp from 255 to 278 (+23 hp) and the torque from 295 lb-ft to 443 (+195!).

Trim Options for 2024 GLC 300 4MATIC

Besides the standard edition, the all new Mercedes GLC 300 4MATIC will be offered in a Pinnacle trim level. For an additional $2950, the trim includes:

  • Burmester sound system
  • Head up display
  • Heat and noise insulating glass
  • Digital light and projections

Mercedes Benz has also revamped its package logic to offer groupings of common features selected by customers. The Night Package, for example, caters to those who prefer AMG styling. Just $200 gets you the classic 19” AMG Twin 5-spoke wheels with black accents (20” is extra). You also get the high gloss black treatment for the front wing, grille lamellas, exterior mirrors, window trim, beltline, and rear diffuser insert.

How Much Does the 2024 GLC 300 4MATIC Cost?

The base MSRP for the 2024 GLC 300 4MATIC is $57,000. This is up $2300 from the 2023 model, which seems reasonable given the new tech and performance specs. The vehicle is available to order right now and will show up at most dealerships later this year (hopefully by December).

We happen to have a limited inventory of the brand new 2024 GLC 300 4MATIC available for a test drive at our dealership in Littleton. In addition, we have a full inventory of both new and certified pre-owned vehicles and are happy to assist you in selecting the model that best suits your needs. Call or go online today to get started.

white mercedes benz driving in snow

Colorado’s famously snowy winters are a big draw for locals and tourists alike. They also present challenging driving conditions that can mean serious traffic backlogs and increased risk of an accident. Knowing how to drive in snow can help you avoid these scenarios and ensure your vehicle stays in peak condition throughout the winter months.

How to Drive in Snow with Rear Wheel Drive

It is actually a common misconception that cars equipped with all wheel drive or four wheel drive have better traction in slippery conditions. While they do offer better traction overall while actively driving and accelerating, they are no better at helping you stop or turn than a two-wheel system; and stopping and turning is often where accidents occur.

With that being said, the way you drive in snow with rear wheel drive will be exactly the same as you would with all wheel drive, front wheel drive, or four wheel drive: carefully, with proper equipment, and with proper vehicular maintenance.

Steps to Drive in Snow Safely

Before you Head Out:

  1. Have Your Vehicle Inspected

Cold weather takes a toll on your vehicle. Make sure it is in fighting form by taking it to the dealership for an inspection. You will especially want to make sure your brake pads are in good working order, you have fresh oil and a new filter, and that your battery can withstand the drop in temperatures. You will also want to replace windshield wipers and test your heating system.

If you haven’t had your routine Mercedes-Benz Service A or Service B performed, do so before the snow hits. You can schedule your service online at the Mercedes Benz of Littleton dealership.

  1. Purchase Snow Tires

Even if your vehicle is equipped with all wheel drive, snow tires are a worthwhile investment during the winter months. Winter tires are made of a material designed to remain soft and pliant during sub-zero temperatures. This gives them added traction when compared to all-weather tires, which can harden and wear down on snow and ice.

  1. Plan Your Trip
  • Check the weather forecast ahead of time to avoid hazardous weather conditions.
  • Plan your route carefully. Avoid rural roads, poorly lit roadways, or areas where they are slower to plow.
  • Let someone know where you are going and when you plan to get there.
  • Remember that cold temperatures negatively affect both electric range and fuel efficiency. Make sure you give yourself plenty of gas/electricity to arrive safely at your destination.
  • Pack your car with bottled water, blankets, and food in case of a breakdown.
  • Charge your cell phone fully.
  • Make sure you have packed your tire chains, if appropriate for your vehicle.
  • Pack sand or cat litter to help you gain traction if your tires are spinning.

On the Road:

How to drive in snow is not as mysterious as it sounds. The main thing to keep in mind is to give yourself more time to do everything:

  • Brake sooner and more gently than you would in dry conditions
  • Keep your eyes farther up the road to scan for obstacles or braking vehicles
  • Scan your dashboard frequently for lights indicating slippery conditions
  • Give yourself plenty of room between vehicles

Other Tips for How to Drive in Snow

Expect Skids

Skids and slides are inevitable in snowy conditions, even if you do everything right. While they can be scary, you must try not to panic. Keep your focus in the direction you wish to go, and correct your vehicle according to its drivetrain:

  • In a front wheel drive vehicle, release the gas as you skid while steering the car in the direction you need to go. When you feel the wheels regain traction, reapply the gas.
  • In a rear wheel drive car, turn the steering wheel in the direction of the slide. If the back wheels are skidding right, steer right.

Know How to Use Your Anti-Lock Brakes

If you are unable to correct your vehicle while sliding or you are in imminent danger of hitting another object, you should employ your vehicle’s Anti Lock Brake System. All newer vehicles have an ABS, which is a computer system designed for emergency stops in extreme weather.

To activate your car’s ABS, press down on the brake hard and hold it there. This will signal the computer to employ the ABS and brake for you, based on the electronically perceived traction. You may feel a slight shudder under the pedal-an indication that ABS is working. You will slow down while you hold your foot on the pedal-just don’t forget to keep steering.

technicians inspect and repair mercedes benz vehicles

Your Mercedes Benz rotates between two routine maintenance services: Service A and Service B. Service A is recommended after the first 10,000 miles (or one year), and Service B starts at 20,000. Today, let’s discuss what is included in Mercedes Benz Service A and the importance of sticking with your maintenance schedule.

What Does Service A Include on a Mercedes?

When your vehicle reaches 10,000 miles OR you have owned your vehicle for one year, it is time for Mercedes Benz Service A. This general upkeep includes:

  • Oil change
  • New oil filter
  • Tire inflation and rotation
  • Fluid checks and top-ups
  • Brake inspection

The list of tasks for Service A is shorter than Service B, which also includes a brake fluid exchange and dust filter replacement. After each service, your technician will reset the service indicator.

Do I Need Mercedes Benz Service A for My Electric Car?

While electric cars require less maintenance than gas-powered ones, they still need routine upkeep in order to run efficiently and for longer. This means that Mercedes Benz Service A still applies to your EQ, although it will not include the oil change or filter. In many cases, it may involve only a simple tire rotation.

The recommended service intervals remain the same for electric vehicles: A at 10,000 miles or 1 year, and B at 20,000 miles or 2 years. Service B on an EQ will be slightly different, as it will include inspection of the high voltage battery, charging cable, socket, and coolant levels in the battery circuit. Your technician will also change the brake fluid and replace the air filter.

What Happens if I Skip Service A?

We cannot recommend that you skip your routinely scheduled Mercedes Benz Service A or B. Regular servicing ensures that your car does not experience premature wear and tear or pose a safety risk. Old oil running through an engine can damage it; poorly aligned tires negatively impact MPG and wear down more quickly. And we needn’t go into the importance of routinely inspected brakes.

That being said, we understand our customers are busy and can’t always make it in perfectly on time. Even if you are six months overdue for your service A, bring your car into the dealership. We may suggest additional services to get your car into shape, but we won’t judge you for procrastinating a little on the maintenance.

Our highly trained service technicians use only genuine OEM parts and the highest quality oil, coolant, and other car fluids. Trust us to get your car in perfect working order so you can enjoy your Mercedes for years to come. Call our office or use our convenient online scheduler to set up your next Mercedes Benz Service A or B.

Mercedes Benz Service A DIY

Gas-powered Mercedes owners with the know-how can certainly perform Service A or B at home! Mercedes Benz of Littleton now offers convenient kits to help you DIY your Service A  and B.

Our Service A kit includes an oil filter replacement, key battery, window washer fluid, and a fuel additive. You will need to purchase your own oil-we recommend the Mercedes Benz brand, of course. Service B includes all the materials in the Service A kit, along with an air filter, dust filter, fine particle filter, and front and rear windshield wipers.

We recommend these kits only for individuals who can safely and knowledgeably perform this maintenance on their vehicles. Otherwise, please bring your vehicle to us to be sure it is done properly.

Mercedes AMG GLC Coupe in White

Mercedes Benz previously announced the release of its all-new AMG GLC Coupe, anticipating that both models would be available in the US by late 2024. Current estimates still project that the base model will arrive by 2024; however, the long-awaited plug-in hybrid AMG GLC 63 is now slated for 2025. We have updated information regarding the exterior and interior features of the vehicles as well. Let’s take a look.

New AMG GLC Coupe Models

First, a recap. The 2025 AMG GLC coupe will be available in two models:

  1. The GLC 63 E PERFORMANCE, which is the brand’s first hybrid SUV coupe. An electrified hand-built M139I AMG 2.0 L four-cylinder engine obtains an impressive 671 hp and 752 lb-ft of torque. Zoom from 0-60 in just 3.4 seconds.
  2. The GLC 43 Coupe is nothing to thumb your nose at, with the same hand-crafted motor, 416 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Despite the “downgrade” to a 4 cylinder engine* from 6, this is a 31 hp boost from the previous model.

Both vehicles have integrated groundbreaking technology in the form of the world’s first electric exhaust gas turbocharger. This is adapted from F1 tech and greatly improves the car’s efficiency and improves handling by allowing for spontaneous response across the entire speed range.

*Prior sources believed the new AMG GLC Coupes would have 6 and 8 cylinder options. Mercedes Benz’s own press release confirms that both trims will utilize a 4 cylinder engine.

Exterior of the New Mercedes AMG GLC Coupe

The exterior of the all new AMG GLC coupes is in keeping with the classic sporty styling of its predecessors. The front is adorned with an AMG-specific grille, which gives the vehicle added width and muscle. Large air inlets and added flics are nice touches, as are the vertical fins on the back bumper.

Both models gain cohesion via a connecting element between the taillights and geometric tailpipe trims (round on the GLC 43, trapezoidal on the 63). The wheel arches are painted to match the body color, adding new contrast to the bold AMG wheels (available in 19, 20, and 21”).

Interior Features of the New AMG GLC Coupe

Inside, tech and luxury abound. AMG floor mats, sports pedals, and illuminated door sills remind you that this is meant to be a race car. The vehicles come standard with all the technology you’ve come to expect in a luxury vehicle, including the MBUX artificial learning system, navigation, and digital instrument cluster.

The big stand out for the new AMG GLC trims, however, is the Supersport option. This feature showcases driver-centric content to be displayed vertically. You can view consumption stats, navigation, and current suspension and transmission settings in a convenient format.

When Will the New AMG GLC Hybrid Be Available?

The Mercedes AMG GLC 63 plug-in hybrid model is set to be released in the US in 2025, while the AMG GLC 43 should arrive in 2024. MSRPs have not been announced, but you can expect the 63 to start around $88,000, and the 43 to start at around $72,000.

While You Wait for the AMG GLC Coupe…

Why not test drive a 2023 GLC? Sure, it’s not an AMG, but it is no less luxurious and almost as fun to drive. Take advantage of our great lease deals and other financing options. Stop by our dealership in Littleton or go online today to see what we have in stock.

Graphic depicting Mercedes EQB vs Lexus RZ

Lexus recently joined the ranks of luxury electric vehicles with the introduction of its RZ model, an SUV that is on par with the brand’s standards for luxury and performance. But how does it stack up with its competitor, the Mercedes Benz EQB? Let’s take a look at the Mercedes EQB vs Lexus RZ.

Key Points:

Mercedes EQBLexus RZ
Better rangeMore hp and torque
Less expensiveSlightly more front leg room
Additional seating availableFaster charging time
Standard premium sound systemSignificantly more cargo space
Better fuel economySlightly better fuel economy
More trim options

EQB vs Lexus RZ Engine Specs

Let’s start with the engine specs for each vehicle. The Lexus utilizes a 71.4 kWh battery, while the Mercedes EQB has a 70.5 kWh battery. Despite the slightly lower capacity, the Mercedes gets up to 25 miles more on a single charge than the Lexus (245 miles versus 220 miles).

At 308 hp, the Lexus is significantly more powerful than the EQB’s 188 hp. The Lexus also has greater torque at 321 lb-ft compared to Mercedes’ 284 lb-ft.

However, upgrading to the Luxury trim on the Lexus offers no changes to its power. Mercedes’ EQB 300 bumps the hp up to 225, while the 350 pushes it even higher to 288 hp. With the pricing so comparable in the higher end trims, it is hard to understand why the output doesn’t get a boost in the 450e Luxury model.

Mercedes EQB vs Lexus RZ Measurements

The Mercedes EQB is slightly taller than the RZ, which means a smidge more front headroom in the Mercedes; and, despite the fact that it is around 2 inches narrower than the RZ, the EQB has significantly more rear shoulder room (3.1 inches of additional space). Overall, however, the interior and exterior measurements are quite similar.

The Lexus electric SUV wins by far when it comes to cargo space. With all seats up, you have 34.9 cubic feet of storage room. The Mercedes has 10.7 cubic feet. However, when the second row is folded down, Mercedes wins with 61.8 cubic feet of space versus the RZ’s 55.6.

Another win for Mercedes is the option to include a third row of seating, increasing the max passenger capacity from 5 to 7. At the moment, Lexus has no option for additional seating in its RZ.

Which is More Luxurious?

When comparing two “luxury” vehicles, we can’t ignore the actual luxury features of each car. Both interiors are plush and comfortable, but there are a few things missing in the Lexus that should be standard in a luxury vehicle. For starters, it lacks the premium sound system that comes with the base EQB trim (the Burmester surround sound system). The Mercedes SUV also has a leather steering wheel, adjustable ambient lighting, and front and rear climate control.

Technology is comparable in the two vehicles: navigation, voice commands, keyless entry, and a central touchscreen come standard. Lexus’ touch screen is larger at 14 inches compared to the EQB’s 12.1 inch screen.

Safety Features in Mercedes EQB vs Lexus RZ Electric SUV

Both luxury electric SUVs include features like active lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, back up cameras, and front and rear airbags. However, the Mercedes EQB also comes standard with auto braking and forward collision warning, which give it the edge where safety is concerned.

Cost of Lexus RZ vs EQB SUV?

The MSRP of the 2023 Lexus RZ 450e is $59,650. The 2023 Mercedes EQB starts at $53,900. The RZ is available in two trims: premium and luxury. The Mercedes Benz electric SUV has three trim options: the 300, 350, and the 250+. Lexus only has an all-wheel drive option, whereas Mercedes has front wheel drive and all wheel drive available.

Test Drive a 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB

We may be biased, but we think that the Mercedes Benz EQB has the clear edge over the Lexus entry level electric SUV. We feel that the EQBs greater range, lower price, added luxury, and more trim options make it the obvious choice. If you want to prove us right, just stop by the Mercedes Benz of Littleton dealership to test drive one of these great vehicles today.

graphic signifying Mercedes EQS Sedan vs Audi E-Tron GT

When it comes to luxury electric vehicles, you have a variety to choose from. Audi and Mercedes are often pitted against each other. Both German manufacturers, both dedicated to excellence in their own ways. So how do you choose? Today, we are going to compare the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan to its closest Audi equivalent, the E-Tron GT. We’ll make a fair assessment of price points, engine performance, range, technology, safety and other aspects to help you choose which vehicle is right for you. Let’s take a closer look at the Mercedes Benz EQS sedan vs Audi E-Tron GT.

Key Points:

Mercedes EQS Sedan:Audi E-Tron GT:
Significantly better rangeSignificantly more hp and torque
Significantly more cargo spaceSlightly more rear headroom
Less expensiveSlightly more front leg room
More safety optionsFaster charging time
Better fuel economy

Mercedes Benz EQS Sedan vs Audi E-Tron GT Engine Specs

Let’s start with the engine specs for each vehicle. The Audi E-Tron utilizes a 93.0 kWh battery, while the Mercedes EQS sedan has a 107.8 kWh battery. The smaller battery of the Audi means it charges faster than the Mercedes-about two hours faster with a level 2 home charger and around 8 minutes less at a fast charging station.

That smaller battery does entail less range, however, and by no small amount: the Mercedes Benz EQS sedan has a max range of 350 miles, compared to the Audi’s 238 mile range. This means that the EQS can travel more than 100 miles farther on a single charge

When it comes to power, the point goes to Audi. The E-tron GT puts out 469 hp compared to the EQS’s 329 hp. Both vehicles have Eco and Sport modes available to suit your driving style.

Fuel economy puts Mercedes back in the lead: the EQS sedan gets a combined 97 MPGe, while the E-Tron GT gets a respectable 83 MPGe on the highway.

Mercedes EQS vs Audi E-Tron Measurements

The EQS Sedan is longer than the E-Tron, with a 126.4 inch wheelbase compared to the Audi’s 114.1 inches. The Mercedes is also 4 inches taller than the Audi. The added length and height translates to more headroom and shoulder room in the front row, more rear legroom, and significantly more cargo space (22 cubic feet in the EQS sedan compared to 9.1 cubic feet in the E-Tron GT).  Audi does have slightly more legroom in the front and headroom in the rear.

Luxury in E-Tron and EQS Sedan

The Audi and EQS vehicles offer comparable sound systems that support Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and bluetooth. Both vehicles also offer ambient lighting and power adjusted seats.

However, the EQS comes standard with leather seats, whereas the E-Tron GT uses premium synthetic upholstery. The Mercedes also has cooled seats, remote engine start, and dual zone rear climate control, all of which are not standard on the E-Tron GT.

Technology is also comparable in the two vehicles, with the exception of the infotainment systems. The central touchscreen in the 2023 Audi E-Tron GT measures 10.1 inches, whereas Mercedes is 12.8 inches. Both vehicles have a navigation system and voice commands.

Safety Features in Audi E Tron vs Mercedes EQS Sedan

Again, the safety features of the Audi E-Tron GT and the Mercedes EQS Sedan are quite similar. Both have rain-sensing windshield wipers, LED headlights, and parking sensors. Each model has a version of complimentary roadside assist whilst the car is under warranty. Mercedes does have remote engine start and a 360 degree camera, which the Audi does not have. It also has Active Park Assist, both back-in and parallel.

Cost of E Tron GT vs EQS Sedan

The MSRP of the 2023 Audi E-Tron GT is $106,395. The 2023 Mercedes EQS Sedan starts at $105,550.

Test Drive a Mercedes EQS Sedan Today

In the end, the type of luxury electric vehicle you choose is entirely up to you. If you are looking for more power in your electric vehicle, you may opt for the Audi in this instance. All other aspects seem to be in favor of Mercedes, however. But don’t take our word for it! Stop by the Mercedes Benz of Littleton dealership to test drive a 2023 EQS Sedan or SUV today.

Graphic advertising Mercedes Benz Sprinter van vs the Ford Transit Cargo van. Both vans are white.

Whether for business or pleasure, you have options when it comes to selecting a van to customize. Today, we are making a direct comparison between two extremely popular models: the Mercedes Benz Sprinter and the Ford Transit Cargo. We’ll compare price points, performance, comfort, and more so you can make an informed decision when it comes time to find your perfect van.

Sprinter and Transit Dimensions

The base model of the 2023  Mercedes Benz Sprinter cargo van, the 2500, starts with a 144” wheel base. The 4500 extends the WB up to 170”. Mercedes has regular and high roof options, maxing out at 110.9”. As for legroom, there is 38.9” in the front row, and 47.3” of headroom in the Mercedes sprinter.

The Ford Transit base model has a WB of 130”, maxing out at 148” inches even in the longest available model. At a max height of 110.4”, it is pretty much on par with Mercedes in that department. The Ford wins when it comes to legroom and headroom, however: 41.3” of legroom in all models, and a max of 56.6” of headroom in the Transit-EL.

As for cargo space, Mercedes Benz takes the lead with up to 532.6 cubic inches of cargo space in the 4500, vs the Transit’s max of 487.3 cubic inches.

Mercedes Benz Sprinter vs Ford Transit Engine Specs

The Ford Transit vans utilize a 3.5L V6 engine, with the option of an Eco Boost version. The standard engine gets 275 hp and lb-ft of torque. Add the Eco Boost, and the numbers shoot up to 310 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. We’re not gonna lie, that’s impressive.

The problem with the Ford Transit is that it is gas-powered. The Mercedes Sprinters, on the other hand, have a 4 cylinder diesel engine, with the option to upgrade to a high-output turbocharged engine. Between the two, the hp and torque are less than Ford’s Transit (the Sprinter maxes out at 211 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque); however, the diesel engine means that the Mercedes Sprinter wins in the long term. Diesel engines can last up to twice as long as their gas-fueled counterparts, making Mercedes the clear winner in terms of resale value and initial investment.

Towing and Weight Restrictions in Sprinter vs Transit

The Mercedes Benz Sprinter has options that allow it to tow up to 7500 lbs and accommodate a payload of up to 6812 lbs. The Ford Transit Cargo van base model can tow 100 lbs more than the Mercedes Benz 2500, but its maximum towing capacity is 6000. Furthermore, it can tolerate a payload of no more than 5114 lbs on the largest available model.

In other words, the Mercedes Benz Sprinter can tow more and hold more, which makes it more flexible for customization.

Mercedes Benz Sprinter Price vs Ford Transit Price

The Sprinter MSRP starts at $49,990; the Transit starts at $44,455. We feel the initial price difference of around $5,000 is more than mitigated by the fact that the Sprinter has the diesel engine. You’ll be hard pressed to extend the life of your Ford Transit past 200,000, whereas the Sprinter can easily surpass 300,000 miles with routine maintenance.

Transit Interior vs Sprinter Interior

This is another department where the Mercedes Benz Sprinter is the clear winner. The Transit interior isn’t bad, per se, but it is extremely bare bones and a touch old fashioned: think vinyl upholstery and plastic details. While the interior of the Sprinter might be minimalist compared to Mercedes usual standards, it runs circles around the Transit and other full-size van competitors. A sleek central touch screen, chrome accents, and ultra comfy front seats make this one of the most driver-centric vans on the market.

Mercedes-Benz CLA class concept car in red

Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled its latest “close-to-production” concept vehicles at the IAA Mobility auto show in Munich: a line of CLA class models with a range higher than any Tesla on the market. Let’s take a closer look at the Mercedes CLA concept cars and when we can expect them to arrive on US shores.

What Vehicles are in the Newest CLA Class?

The concept CLA Class from the renowned German automaker encompasses four distinct models: a sleek sedan, a versatile station wagon, and two stylish SUVs. While Mercedes-Benz has not provided a specific production timeline, these groundbreaking vehicles are undoubtedly set to make a significant impact in the electric car market.

How Far Will the New CLA Class Go?

Each of these vehicles will deliver an extraordinary range of more than 750 kilometers, equivalent to 466 miles. This remarkable feat eclipses both Tesla’s Model 3 and Model S, which, despite being Tesla’s highest-range offerings, can only manage just under 375 miles on a single charge. The CLA concept cars will have a battery system that can add 400 kilometers  (248.5 miles) of range in a mere 15 minutes of fast charging.

Why Is Mercedes Prioritizing Range?

Expanding the CLA’s range capabilities makes sense for both customers and the company. “Range anxiety” remains a significant boundary for many drivers curious about switching to electric. Along with the continued development of fast-charging stations, the added range can help soothe this anxiety and encourage drivers to go all-electric.

From a business standpoint, winning the EV range game is an important step in outpacing competitors like Tesla and BMW. The lineup is, not coincidentally, on the heels of a slight downtick in business in China, where drivers prefer local brands like Byd Co. and Nio Inc.

In general, Mercedes-Benz’s Concept CLA Class marks a significant step towards introducing a fresh, all-electric category of entry-level vehicles within the Mercedes-Benz lineup, with the goal of capturing a broader audience

A Smaller Electric G Wagen?

At the IAA Show, Mercedes Benz CEO Ola Källenius also hinted at an intriguing upcoming addition: a smaller, more affordable all-electric G Wagen. This forthcoming vehicle could position itself as a competitor to Tesla’s Model Y, which also falls under the compact SUV category.

When Will the CLA Concept Class Be Available?

The new CLA vehicles are set to go into production in 2025. As far as design goes, they are similar to current Mercedes Benz EVs, but slightly smaller. The lower, more aerodynamic styling is part of the reason it can achieve such an impressive range.

As we await the arrival of the all-electric CLA line, Mercedes continues to offer unsurpassed design, luxury, and tech in their existing line up of electric vehicles. When you are in need of a replacement part for your Mercedes Benz vehicle, you have the option to purchase it online. While this can be a perfectly legitimate solution, you will also need to be wary of counterfeit products. Mercedes Benz reportedly took down 130,000 counterfeit product listings and physically seized millions more in 2020 alone. So, how do you know what to look for? Read our article to help you successfully purchase your Mercedes Benz parts online, with no surprises.

Why Are Counterfeit Parts Bad?

Aside from being illegal, counterfeit car parts can have other negative consequences:

Compromised Safety

Counterfeit parts may be dangerous, especially if they are part of the vehicle’s safety systems (i.e. brakes). While product forgeries may be a convincing imitation, this does not indicate that the part will perform optimally or even at all.

Even seemingly cosmetic parts can have unknown safety consequences. Mercedes reported on a case study when the owner of the vehicle replaced the standard factory grille with another purchased online. The grille was counterfeit and ultimately prevented the hood from latching properly. While driving, the hood suddenly popped open and smashed the windshield.

Voided Warranty

Using anything other than genuine parts for your Mercedes Benz may void the warranty, meaning you will be financially responsible for any repairs.

Furthermore, forged parts may compromise other systems in the vehicle, resulting in costly and premature repairs or replacements.

Environmental and Humanitarian Hazards

Counterfeiters produce these parts cheaply and en masse with no regard for environmental standards or humane working conditions. When purchasing Mercedes parts online, you may unwittingly be supporting unethical labor practices. Furthermore, the research and design gone into purposefully reducing Mercedes Benz vehicle’s carbon footprint can be negated by a forged part.

Counterfeit vs Aftermarket Parts

Aftermarket parts are legitimate car parts that are designed to fit more than one vehicle. Unlike counterfeit products, they are not marketed as brand-specific and not intended to deceive. They are often cheaper than genuine parts, which makes them enticing to buyers. Keep in mind, however, that using aftermarket parts may also void the warranty on your vehicle and actually cost more long term, since they may not last as long as brand-specific parts.

How to Avoid Counterfeit Mercedes Parts Online

Most online purchases of counterfeit parts are not intentional. The makers of these parts can be quite convincing, reassuring customers of their products’ authenticity with bogus photos and descriptions. So how can you avoid accidentally buying a forged Mercedes part online? Here are a few tips:

Look for Brand Specialty

If an online store is offering parts for an inordinately large number of different brands, this is a red flag for potential counterfeit items. Look for sites that specialize in a few brands.

Be Wary of Ultra-Low Prices

If a price for a part is far, far below the nearest competitor, it is likely a counterfeit. While a legitimate site may be offering a deal on certain parts, it should be within reason. Just remember that, if a price seems too good to be true, it probably is.

There’s No Such Thing as an “Exclusive” Part

Many of these products seized by Mercedes in the last few years are parts the brand itself does not even make. Mercedes Benz does not gatekeep essential parts. If a shop is advertising a “one of a kind” or “exclusive part,” it is more than likely a fake.

Look at Site Ratings

Ratings can provide an indication of both the quality of an online store’s products and the company’s professionalism in dealing with complaints. Look for overall positive ratings and compassionate, competent responses to negative reviews.

Use an Authorized Dealer

The best way to avoid accidentally purchasing counterfeit Mercedes parts online is to go through an authorized dealer. Most dealerships have an online store with listings bearing the label “OEM.” This designation stands for “Original Equipment Manufacturer,” and it is a solid indication that you are purchasing genuine parts.
