Mercedes Benz consistently ranks among the top luxury vehicles in the world. The brand’s dedication to innovation and driver experience is second-to-none, and this is all the more apparent in their lineup of electric vehicles. Today, we will compare the 2022 Mercedes Benz EQS electric sedan with the 2022 Tesla Model S, another extremely popular luxury electric vehicle.

EQS and Tesla Model S Pricing

The Mercedes EQS 450+ sedan starts at $102,310. A higher-powered 580 version starts at $125,900 MSRP.

Tesla’s Base Model S sells for $104,990, and the upgraded Plaid Model S starts at $135,990.

Mercedes EQS and Tesla S Specs Comparison

When it comes down to it, Tesla has a tendency to “go hard or go home” where specs are concerned. In fact, you will notice quite a few superlatives on the website, like “quickest acceleration of any vehicle in production,” and “most aerodynamic production car on Earth.”

It is true that the S Model far outpaces the competition in terms of range, horsepower, acceleration, drag coefficient, etc. And at a similar price point, you may be wondering why you would ever choose a Mercedes over a Tesla.

Two words: driver experience. Tesla’s notoriously peacocking CEO seems to have sacrificed much of the luxury you might expect in a luxury electric vehicle in favor of ludicrous stats. (Why, on Earth, anyone would need an EV with 1080 hp is beyond us.)

Mercedes EQS interior has a more supple, lavish appearance as compared to the Tesla Model S.

While the outside of the Tesla Model S is fairly sleek, the cabin of a Tesla model S is surprisingly underwhelming. With its minimalist approach accented with bright white and pine details, the interior of the Model S has a certain simple, Scandi charm. It kind of reminds us of Ikea. Not bad, but certainly not luxurious.

The Mercedes interior, on the other hand, feels like an upgrade from Coach to First Class. Non-synthetic materials like real leather and wood paneling exude affluence and lend a rich aroma to the cabin. The front is lined with active, multi-colored LED lights that can change based on preference or signify battery life. A small touch, but it really lends to the whole “car of the future” aesthetic.

If the smell of leather and wood isn’t your thing, don’t worry: Mercedes’s patented MBUX artificial intelligent learning system allows you to fully customize the feel and smell of your cabin. 5 programs combine pleasant scents, music, and lighting for an almost spa-like driving experience.

Which is Better? Tesla S or Mercedes EQS?

In the end, it depends on your personal preference. The Model S does have staggering power, excellent range, and supercar drivability. For our money, though, we will take the EQS anyday. It is not only gorgeous inside and out, it also offers superior tech and luxury for both driver and passengers.
