Electric cars are both an economical and environmentally friendly option. Mercedes is preparing to launch an all-new EQ line: three all-electric vehicles that set the new standard for luxury, performance, and technology. It is the start of a planned rollout that will only gain momentum Mercedes will soon offer an electric vehicle globally in every segment and sell nothing but EVs by 2030 as part of a $47 billion investment from 2022 to 2030. However, not all the EQ family is coming to North America initially. Here are the vehicles we can expect to see state side in the next couple of years.

What Are Mercedes-Benz Electric Vehicles Models?

The initial Mercedes-Benz EQ lineup will include:

  1. EQS – an all-electric vehicle with S-class luxury and styling. Set to release later this year.
  2. EQB – Mercedes Benz all-electric SUV with seating for up to seven people will be available in 2022.
  3. EQE – a mid-sized sedan with E-class design and an electric engine, available in 2022

Starting with the EQS

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan is the flagship of the brand’s electrified future and one of the fanciest EVs ever. Its curvaceous body effortlessly slips through the air for maximum efficiency, and its palatial cabin boasts luxurious appointments and state-of-the-art features for the all-important wow factor. That’s made most obvious by the optional glass-covered Hyperscreen dashboard. The sizable EV sedan is offered with a 329-hp, rear-drive powertrain (EQS450+) or a 516-hp, all-wheel-drive setup (EQS580 4Matic). Both utilize a large 107.8-kWh battery that’s rated at up to 350 miles of range. While calling the 2022 EQS an electrifying luxury car is an easy pun, it’s also entirely accurate.

Next Up The EQB

The U.S.-market EQB will offer two powertrain guises when it goes on sale in 2022: an entry-level 225-hp EQB300 and a more powerful 288-hp EQB350. Both come standard with all-wheel-drive courtesy of the electric motor located at each axle, as well as a 67-kWh battery pack that provides an estimated 260 miles of range on Europe’s WLTP testing cycle. Expect that figure to drop some after the conservative EPA puts the EQB through its official testing. The EQB300 will accelerate to 62 mph in 8.0 seconds.

Finally the EQE

Think of the all-electric 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan as a smaller, albeit similarly distinctive, version of the Mercedes EQS. Both models basically represent electrified alternatives to the brand’s conventional E-class and S-class models. The EQE’s slippery bodywork and spacious cabin share styling cues with the larger EQS, and it’s available with equally impressive features, including a screen that extends across the full width of the instrument panel called the Hyperscreen. The EQE will fill the space between Tesla’s compact Model 3 and mid-size Model S. The electric Mercedes is expected to have a driving range of over 300 miles as well as fast-charging capabilities that allow it to charge its battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes. The single-motor, rear-drive EQE300 will debut first with 288 horsepower, but a more powerful variant with dual motors and all-wheel drive will follow.

Mercedes-Benz Electric Vehicles and their Features

The Mercedes EQ cars will vary in their overall look and capacity. However, the vehicles do share certain key aspects that are central to their enhanced performance:

Synchronous Motors

All EQ vehicles have a synchronous motor. These compact motors operate using an alternating current and can be adjusted to various power factors. (By contrast, an induction motor can only be adjusted at a lagging power factor.) A synchronous motor is able to produce high levels of torque at low speeds, and is the ideal choice when precision is called for.

MBUX Hyperscreen

Each EQ vehicle will feature the all-new MBUX hyperscreen, a curved glass instrument panel that stretches from door to door. The MBUX is a highly intuitive AI learning system that adapts to both driver and passenger needs and makes suggestions for comfort, infotainment, and other vehicle operations.

Electric Vehicles and Lithium Ion Batteries

Mercedes uses state-of-the-art lithium ion batteries placed beneath the vehicle floor. The EQ batteries set new standards for electric vehicle performance and charging capacity.

Mercedes-benz EQS is the car of the future
