The term “Certified Pre-Owned” or CPO is applied to used vehicles that have met rigorous criteria for age, mileage, and condition. Generally speaking, CPO designated vehicles are newer models with fewer miles than non-certified used vehicles (the exact criteria differs among manufacturers). They also come with detailed ownership history and service records.

Often, CPO cars are trade-ins from vehicles who’s three year lease has ended. This means you can buy a car that is only three years old and has met meticulous inspection standards. That being said, there are a few things to consider when purchasing a CPO vehicle.

Should You Buy a CPO Vehicle?

Benefits of Certified Pre Owned Cars

  1. Nicer Car

Certified pre owned vehicles have fewer miles and less wear and tear than comparable used vehicles that don’t qualify as a CPO. For this reason, purchasing a CPO all but guarantees a near-new driving experience.

  1. Extended Warranty

Cars that meet the Certified Pre Owned criteria come with an extended manufacturer’s warranty. CPO vehicles will typically be in better condition overall. However, should unforeseen issues arise, you will have peace of mind knowing you have the CPO extended warranty coverage.

At Mercedes Benz of Littleton, all our certified pre-owned vehicles come with the Mercedes Base Limited Warranty, which covers you for a full year with no mileage limit. You will also have access to any remaining time on the car’s original 4-year/50,000 mile New Vehicle Warranty.

When your year of Base Limited Warranty is up, you have the option to purchase an additional 1 or 2 years of coverage via the MBCPO Extended Limited Warranty. Again, the policy covers unlimited miles, and the peace of mind it offers is priceless.

What Does MBCPO Extended Limited Warranty Cover?

  • Mercedes certified pre-owned limited warranty coverage includes:
  • Engine, transmission, rear axle, cooling system, and fuel injection
  • 4Matic all-wheel drive or other traction enhancements (ASD, ASR, ESP, ETS)
  • Top actuation and rollbar systems for convertible models
  • Central Locking System (actuators, switches, linkages, transmitters, and receivers)
  • Steering, suspension, brakes
  • Most electrical systems, including motors, gauges, switches, sensors, regulators, and relays
  • Audio and navigation systems
  • Climate control
  • Miscellaneous items (windshield wiper linkages, sunroof cables, window regulators, power seat cables, etc.*)

*For full Extended Warranty coverage details, consult with your authorized Mercedes Benz Certified Pre Owned Dealer.

  1. Special Rates

Many dealerships offer lower APRs on their certified pre-owned vehicles than they do for non-certified used or new vehicles. In some cases, you may even qualify for zero percent APR (though these offers typically require a fairly immaculate credit score). Either way, you can expect to negotiate a good deal on your APR when purchasing a CPO vehicle.

Potential Drawbacks of CPO Vehicle

  1. More Expensive

A CPO vehicle can be thousands of dollars more than a non-certified vehicle of the same make and model. However, when you consider that the CPO will have fewer miles, be in better condition, and likely require fewer repairs down the road, the extra cost may be well worth it.

  1. Smaller Selection

Only branded dealerships sell certified pre-owned vehicles. Since you will be limited to these locations when shopping, the number and variety of vehicles will be pared down a little.

  1. Still Used

A CPO vehicle is still used. This means that, although the car has met higher standards of performance and appearance, it may still require repairs sooner than a brand new vehicle.
