Mercedes Benz Sprinter vans have developed a solid reputation for being reliable, comfortable, powerful, and, perhaps most importantly, highly customizable. From individual #vanlife conversions to fleets of delivery vehicles, it is unlikely you haven’t come across one of these vehicles at least in passing. The 2022 extended cargo van is Mercedes’ latest and roomiest model, with plenty of added tech for increased comfort and efficiency.

2022 Mercedes 2500 vs 2500 Extended

Mercedes offers its Sprinter 2500 model in a 144”, 170”, and 170” extended wheelbase. As the name suggests, the 170” extended is slightly longer overall than the 170”. The extended model is 290” in length versus the 170” at 274”.

The increased length contributes to quite a bit of additional cargo space within the extended model as well. The 2022 Sprinter 2500 170” extended version has 533 cubic feet of storage space compared to 488 cubic feet in the standard 170” wheelbase.

At 3,682 lbs, the 2500 extended Sprinter does have a slightly smaller payload capacity than the 170”, which can take on 3,792 lbs.

Mercedes Sprinter Extended Engine Specs

Like its standard 144” and 170” counterparts, the 2500 170” extended Sprinter cargo van utilizes a 4 cylinder diesel engine. In both the 170” and 170” extended, the engine  gets 161 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. The extended van is rear wheel drive and implements Mercedes’ 7G Tronic automatic 7-speed transmission.
