Planning the Perfect Spring Break Road Trip

It’s almost March, and that means Spring Break is just around the corner. Even if you’re not in college anymore, spring is a time for getting out of dodge. In Colorado, that can mean a ski trip, a hot-springs getaway, or a multi-stop road trip vacation. Spend a week on the open road with our complete guide to planning a spring break road trip. Whether you’re going solo, planning a romantic getaway, or taking the whole family along, we’ve got tips and tricks to elevate your experience. Colorado is a big place, but that needn’t slow you down!

Where to Go:

Colorado Spring Break Road Trip

Any spring break road trip starts with a map. While Colorado is a big state, we’ve narrowed down this year’s top destinations for you. Additionally,

Short Trip: Crested Butte — a foodie’s paradise complete with world-class skiing, Crested Butte offers something for everyone. Located just 4 hours from Denver, it’s an easy getaway and a cozy place to spend a week in spring. Awash in sunshine, art galleries, and boutique stores, the small-town charm cannot be overstated. Finally, the lush mountains around “CB” offer some of the best cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the state.

Medium-Length: Telluride — an adult playground full of upbeat nightlife and festivals, Telluride is well worth the longer drive. Enter the box canyon of the Ophir Valley and step back in time to a Wild-West gold mining town. Modern days have brought the modern lifestyle, and the likes of Oprah Winfrey and Tom Cruise have built homes in the area. Don’t miss a show at the historic Sheridan Opera House–there’s always something good on!

Long Trip: Four Corners Tour — why not make your spring break road trip something special? Go beyond Colorado with a tour of the Four Corners States, including Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. National parks abound, and you certainly shouldn’t miss Arches, the Grand Canyon, and White Sands in each of the three states respectively.

What to Do:

Colorado Skiing

The destination you choose is just the jumping off point. A spring break road trip is all about the journey, the activities, and the memories you create. While there are an infinite amount of things to do this spring, this list should help narrow down some of the best.

Skiing & Snowboarding: Spring skiing is some of the best skiing. Warmer temperatures, longer daylight hours, and softer snow are all reasons to throw your gear in the car for your spring break road trip. Read our full guide of best ski trips this year, and plan to get some days on the slopes.

Scenic Drives: Ever heard that the journey is better than the destination? That can be true when you’re cruising one of these drives in a Mercedes-Benz. Maybe this road trip will be all about the road.

Fine Dining: Most ski towns attract amazing restaurants, and a few are true food towns. Crested Butte stands out, as do Breckenridge, Aspen, and Vail. You don’t have to be in Denver to find top-notch sushi, home-style American, or rare delicacies.

Shopping: Any spring break road trip will yield some mementos, and shopping at your destinations can be a great activity. Pick up some goodies for the kids, find yourself some new ski gear, or discover a hand-crafted relic in Santa Fe.

Hiking: it might be a little cold for hiking in most of Colorado, but the Four Corners is chock-full of fantastic trails. Try Sedona, Moab, or Pecos River Canyon for the best views and nature experiences.

What to Bring:

Mercedes-Benz Ski and Snowboard Rack

Gear is important on any spring break road trip, and that’s where Mercedes-Benz accessories come in. Whether you’re strapping on a snowboard, protecting your interior from snowy boots, or bringing the bike along for a Moab trip, your vehicle can become so much more.
