Tallyn’s reach is a community in Aurora, Colorado with a quiet, suburban vibe. The lawns are impeccable, patios are strewn with fairy lights, and you can almost always see someone walking a dog.
You would never guess this quiet neighborhood is minutes away from Southlands, a buzzing outdoor mall with shopping, restaurants, and an AMC movie theatre.
The proximity to the Southlands Mall means there are plenty of date night options without having to travel too far from the kids. In warmer months, you can see a movie or go window shopping. During the winter months, you can bundle up and try your hand at ice skating on the rink right by the theatre. In any case, you’ll want to end the evening at one of the delicious restaurants on our list.
American
Bookmakers Burgers Bourbon Brews
Have you ever been to a burger joint that let you add a grilled hotlink as a “topping”? If you haven’t, then you have yet to try Bookmakers, a low-key pub in the Southlands that is taking the humble hamburger to crazy and delicious heights.
The Piggy Bank, for example, loads a 100% Colorado Proud Angus Beef patty with bacon, BBQ pulled pork, shaved deli ham, mozzarella cheese, and crispy onion strings. The Green Chili burger adds a classic Colorado touch with housemade pork green chili, fresh jalapenos, and cheddar cheese.
If you’re looking for lighter fare, Bookmakers also offers a great selection of fresh salads and housemade dressings. You could also try the zesty Buffalo chicken sandwich and sub your fries for sweet potato fries or a house salad.
Bookmakers features an extensive cocktails list and is renowned, in particular, for its bourbon and whiskey selection. Add a little date night flare by sampling a Whiskey flight or a Dragon Barrel Old Fashioned: whiskey, bitters, orange peel, and a Dragon’s Milk Stout beer float.
Mexican
3 Margaritas
Not quite in the Southlands Mall area, Tres Margaritas is a wonderful restaurant for date night. It has an enormous menu with delicious classics like tamales, chicken enchiladas, and monster beef burritos smothered in delectable chili sauces. The entrees arrive on platters surrounded by rice, beans, onions, lettuce, and tomato.
Get date night started with a house margarita and the bacon-wrapped, cheese-stuffed jalapenos. For a decadent shareable, try the MolCajete: tender pieces of pork, beef, and chicken are slow-simmered with spices and vegetables and served in a molcajete, the traditional stone mortar vessel. Scoop the delicious stew into warm flour tortillas.
A wonderful vibe for the evening, full of colors, flavor, good drinks and hospitality. Also, since it’s only a stones throw from Tallyn’s Reach, it’s a great destination.
Japanese
Mt Fuji Sushi & Hibachi
If you’re looking to combine dinner and a show, Hibachi is always a great option. Choose your protein (chicken, filet mignon, scallops, wagyu beef, and more) and enjoy a culinary performance as your chef tosses and artfully catches utensils and even cracks a joke or two. The hibachi dinner is served with perfectly cooked rice, onion soup, and savory dipping sauces.
If you’re in the mood for a more intimate meal, Mt Fuji also has an extensive sushi menu. Try a Sushi Lover Boat with the Chef’s suggestions for a truly dazzling meal for two. Paired with warm sake, it’s a dinner made in heaven.
Indian
Monsoon Cuisine of India in Tallyn’s Reach
This sleek restaurant features all your Indian favorites with a few twists on tradition. Start with some crispy samosas or a cup of dal soup. Next, dip warm cheese naan into a tangy and creamy lamb masala. Finish off this flavorful meal with Kheer, a traditional rice pudding with the crunch of almonds, pistachios, and coconut.
Monsoon is famous for its tandoori dishes, smoked in the traditional Indian oven at temperatures of up to 800 degrees. If meat is not your thing, they also have an excellent vegetarian menu. Try the Alu Gobhi for a filling and completely meat-free dish that features pan fried potato, cauliflower, ghee, turmeric, and a little heat from the red pepper flakes.

Lazy Dog
Lazy Dog is a Southlands staple. They are famous for their Happy Hour, with unique and tasty appetizers like Bacon Candy, Crispy Deviled Eggs, and Loaded Potato Hush Puppies. Their drink specials are excellent and they have a great selection of local craft beer.
The menu ranges from comfort food stand-bys like chicken pot pie and meatloaf to Asian fusion dishes like Ginger and Soy Salmon and Thai Noodle Bowls. Our personal favorite: the Campfire Pot Roast with mashed red potatoes, sauteed baby spinach, and a savory red wine gravy.
We confess, Lazy Dog is not always the best option if you’re watching your waistline. But for us, special occasions like Date Night are exempt from dieting obligations.
