Is the Electric Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan Good for a Road Trip?
Everybody knows that electric vehicles are basically tailor-made for urban driving, but many are still skeptical about whether EVs are good for long road trips—some shoppers are concerned about range, charging time, and finding EV stations while traveling.
EVs are continually evolving though, and many modern electric vehicles are as road trip ready as any gas-powered car out there. To prove it, let’s examine the specs and features of the new 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan.
Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan Range and Charging
To be the best EV for a road trip, it needs to have some serious battery capacity to give you the range that you need to crank out the miles.
The EQS Sedan is available in three different models, all of which have an upgraded 118kWh battery capacity. Here are their EPA-estimated ranges:
- EQS 450+ Sedan: 390 miles of range
- EQS 450 4MATIC® Sedan: 367 miles of range
- EQS 580 4MATIC® Sedan: 371 miles of range
While these range estimates may change a bit depending on the temperature and your driving habits, they’re still significantly bigger than most other luxury EVs, and even many internal combustion cars.
All three models are also capable of 200-kilowatt DC fast charging speeds, which allows them to go from a 10% to 80% state of charge in just half an hour.
Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan: Interior Comfort
Another important factor in any road trip is whether the cabin provides enough space and comfort for a long-haul trip. The EQS Sedan is Mercedes-Benz’s flagship EV, and it’s based largely off the fan-favorite S-Class, so longtime owners will likely recognize similar dimensions, as well as top-notch features and premium materials.
The spacious interior seats five comfortably, and the trunk has a cargo capacity of 22 cubic feet. If you’re just riding with a single passenger, you can also make use of the fold-down rear seats, which ups the total cargo capacity to a whopping 63 cubic feet. The rear row also splits 60/40, allowing multiple passenger and cargo configurations.
As a full-size car, the EQS also has excellent interior dimensions with ample space to stretch out—front legroom is 41.7 inches, while the rear passengers will enjoy 40.4 inches of legroom.
The EQS doesn’t skimp on comfort features either. Heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, dual-zone climate control, and 64-color LED ambient lighting all come standard, and many optional upgrades are available as well.
Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan: Technology
At the front of the in-cabin EQS experience, we find the MBUX Hyperscreen, a pillar-to-pillar display that encompasses all infotainment systems, including the 17.7-inch OLED center touch screen, 12.3-inch LED digital instrument cluster, and a 12.3-inch front passenger display.
The passenger display is especially helpful on long jaunts because it lets the co-pilot access navigation, media, and comfort settings at will, allowing the driver to stay focused on the road.
The EQS also has the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX), which allows for Bluetooth® hands-free audio and voice recognition to operate all vehicle systems.
Perhaps the coolest feature, though, is the standard MB Navigation with Electric Intelligence. When activated, this system uses Active Range Monitoring to plan the most efficient route to wherever you want to go, and factors in compatible charging stations along the way.
Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan: Safety
Of course, the most important thing in any road trip is making sure that you and your precious cargo get to your destination safely. Mercedes-Benz recognizes this, and they’ve thrown in an extensive list of EQS Sedan standard safety and driver assistance features, including:
- Car-to-X Communication
- Active Steering Assist
- Evasive Steering Assist
- Active Speed Limit Assist
- Active Stop-and-Go Assist
- Active Lane Keeping Assist
- Active Lane Change Assist
- Active Brake Assist with Cross-Traffic Function
- Active Emergency Stop Assist
- Active Blind Spot Assist
- Front and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert w/pedestrian detection and automatic braking
- Crosswind Assist
- Adaptive High Beam Assist

Of special note, the Car-to-X Communication technology is designed to alert other drivers to potential hazards in real time. This revolutionary technology is sure to become more and more common in the coming years, making the open road a safer place for everyone.
