Mercedes Benz is rolling out its EQE sedan this year, following the successful 2022 launch of its all-electric EQS sedan. The EQE will share certain features of the EQS; but, much like its gas-fueled counterpart, there will be a few key differences. Let’s take a closer look at the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE vs the EQS sedan.
EQE vs EQS Price
The 2023 Mercedes EQE starting price is $74,900. You will have the option, of course, to upgrade both styling, safety features, tech, and drive train. All-wheel-drive, for example, will cost an extra $3000 or so.
The Mercedes EQS has a base price of $104,400 and also has the option to upgrade certain styling elements, safety features, drive train, etc. Upgrading from the EQS 450 to the EQS 580 4MATIC costs several thousand dollars more (starting price is $125,950).
Mercedes Electric E-Class vs EQS Driving Stats
As a slightly smaller, more affordable version of the EQS, the 2023 EQE will necessarily have toned down stats as compared to the electric S-class. The EQE incorporates a 90.6 kWh battery, versus the 107.8 kWh battery of the EQS. This means the EQE will have a slightly lower range and probably lower MPGe, although the latter has yet to be finalized. Maximum range for the EQE is listed as 305 miles on a full charge. The EQS has a max range of 350 miles.
Acceleration and torque are comparable: the EQE reaches 60 mph in 6.2 seconds, compared to 6.3 seconds for the EQS. Both base models start with a smooth 417 lb-ft of torque. Despite its smaller battery, the EQE clocks in at a surprising 288 horsepower (the EQS starts at 329).
2023 EQE and 2022 EQS Styling and Size Comparison
The EQE is classified as a mid-sized sedan (the EQS is full-size). This means it is slightly more compact. The vehicle has a 122.8 inch wheelbase and a total length of 196.6 inches, making it just over 10 inches shorter overall than the EQS.
The look of the 2023 EQE is similar to the EQS, with a sculpted design and signature EQ elements, like a glossy black grille and LED lighting. The EQS, however, incorporates a hatchback trunk, while the EQE has a more traditional lift gate. Overall, the EQE trunk has about 7 cubic feet less room than the EQS.
Both the 2023 EQE and the 2022 EQS are resplendent with the latest in luxury and technology, including Mercedes’ patented MBUX AI learning system, ambient lighting, voice commands, state-of-the-art safety software, and more. As with the traditional S-Class vehicles, the EQS does have a few additional upgrades in the luxury department (think larger screens, heated seats with massage capability, and fragrance-emitting technology).
Fair Comparison Between 2023 EQE and 2022 EQS
Ultimately, the choice between the Mercedes EQE and EQS comes down to personal preference and need. The price difference is steep, so you will want to know specifically what you are paying extra for in the electric S class. Overall, the higher price gets you more trunk space, a little more leg room, and a heck of a lot more luxury. That being said, the EQE is nothing to sneeze at. As a mid-sized electric sedan, it is an ideal introduction to the world of luxury electric cars.
